Newly Recognized Cancer Risk for Railroad Employees: Formaldehyde in Diesel Fumes

Learn about the risks posed by formaldehyde to people working on train engines and in rail yards.

By John Cooper, Railroad Occupational Disease Attorney

Following up on a notice from our FELA plaintiff’s attorney colleagues at Doran & Murphy in Buffalo, New York (NY), my Virginia personal injury law firm co-worker Rick Shapiro has alerted YardLimits Forum members of a previously underrecognized cancer risk: on-the-job exposure to formaldehyde in diesel fumes from engine exhausts. YardLimits is unique online community for all people who work in the railroad industry and also a place for lawyers who specialize in representing rail employees in injury and wrongful death lawsuits to share news and legal information. Free registration is required to view some of the content and participate in the ongoing discussions, but if you’re a railroader, you owe it to yourself to visit YardLimits. Specifically, learn about the risks posed by formaldehyde to people working on train engines and in rail yards.
